As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering excellence in cannabis certification, we are pleased to announce that our Control Union Medical Cannabis Standard (CUMCS) has been updated to version 5.1, fully aligned with the recently published GACP Revision 1.

Additionally, our GACP Declaration has also been updated to reflect the latest requirements. This ensures that clients working with us remain fully compliant with evolving international expectations.

What Does This Mean for You?

  • The CUMCS V5.1 now formally integrates the updates introduced by GACP Revision 1, including several structural and technical enhancements across cultivation, post-harvest, and quality management systems.

  • Certified clients will transition to the updated version at the time of their certification renewal (during their next annual audit).

  • As of October 10, 2025, only the revised version of the standard will be applicable across all new audits and re-certifications.

  • Our GACP Declaration has been revised accordingly and will be included in your updated certification documentation package.

Summary of Key Changes Introduced in GACP Revision 1

While many of the new elements had already been integrated into our previous internal version of the CUMCS, the following are notable highlights from the regulatory revision:

  • Clarification on Propagation Material: More specific requirements for mother plants and clones, including area demarcation and documentation.
  • Water Quality Control: Mandatory testing of irrigation water for microbial and chemical contaminants, aligned with Good Agricultural Practices.
  • Enhanced Personnel Hygiene & Training: Expanded requirements for hygiene protocols, training frequency, and competency assessments.
  • Post-Harvest Handling Requirements: Clearer guidance on drying, trimming, and packaging processes, including traceability and contamination control.
  • Environmental and Sustainability Considerations: Emphasis on sustainable practices and waste management plans to reduce the environmental impact of operations.
  • Documentation & Record-Keeping: Strengthened expectations regarding record accuracy, retention timelines, and digital traceability.
Together, we continue to raise the standards for medical cannabis worldwide

What Sets CUMCS Apart?

  • Because the CUMCS standard is tailored to the unique needs of medical cannabis operations and already incorporates high-level quality system elements, the transition for existing clients will be minimal.

  • Our teams are fully prepared to support every client through the transition period with guidance, training, and updated documentation.

  • If you are an existing or prospective client and have any questions about how this update affects your certification status or upcoming audit, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
